If you’re looking for an appointment keeper, this isn’t for you; there are no spaces to enter doctor visits or lunch dates. This is, in fact, a guidebook of hints, tips and daily gardening chores -- presented in an easy-to-tackle calendar format.
Jessica Damiano's Day-by-Day Gardening Calendar won a Garden Communicators International award in 2021.
If you’ve ever brought home a plant, put it in the ground and then wondered how to keep it alive — or are experienced but not quite sure of how to deal with pests and diseases when they strike, then you’ll appreciate that Jessica Damiano has filled every date box with her horticultural hand-holding! You’ll never miss a seed-starting date, fertilizer application period, houseplant repotting time or preventive crabgrass-control window again.
The tips and chores provided in this calendar are tailored for Northeast and mid-Atlantic gardeners in USDA horticultural zones 6A, 6B, 7A and 7B. Those gardening in the cooler end of the range (6A) may wish to delay some recommendations by one to two weeks, particularly if early spring temperatures are cooler than expected. Those gardening in 7B, which is a bit warmer, may be able to implement sowing and planting recommendations one to two weeks earlier than advised. For other zones -- or the same zones in other parts of the country, you may need to shift chores one week earlier or later per zone, but mostly, let the weather guide you.
One for you, one for a friend!
